Really tasty chicken leg, rice, beans, and salad. Simple. But wow today’s price for chicken stew is whopping $12.
Not a bad place for a cheap lunch if you are in the mood for Latin food. The place is literally inside a loading dock so you will see guys walking around pushing hand trucks. The place has daily specials that include chicken, pork and beef with rice and beans. If my pockets are jingling and not crinkling, this is the spot on limited budget.
Delicious, authentic Ecuadorian food. The staff was super kind and encouraged me to practice my Spanish while there. Try the Aji hot sauce! It's delicious and spicy!
Solid easy-to-miss lunch spot (and breakfast too, I suppose) in the Garment District. All items are served at very reasonable price (all entree are less than $8 as of March 2017). Portion is decent and flavor is spot on. Highly recommend their hot sauce - it adds a lot of flavor and isn't burn-your-tongue-off spicy. Cheese empanada is also very good, especially when it's hot. Cash only.
The pernil was tasty and moist but a little less salty than I usually prefer. I love when pork packs a punch but I can’t expect every restaurant to have the exact same recipe. The beans were great and the rice was incredibly fluffy. If you can’t handle heat stay away from their complementary hot sauce available at the tables.
Food was reasonably priced especially for the neighborhood however, I guess somewhat predictably, the portion sizes were on the small side. If you bring your appetite you just might need to get second lunch.
This is an interesting place. We stood on the street for while and couldn’t find the restaurant until I saw their menu on the door of an entrance. There is no ambiance and I don’t think they care. The restaurant looks more like a good truck and next to it there are a few dumpsters. It made me slightly uncomfortable and worried about the food safety. But the food was actually pretty decent. If you are around and you are brave enough, give it a try. It is damp cheap anyway.
This is one of my favorite hidden secrets in NYC! Tucked in a loading bay for a building, the owners prepare delicious Ecuadorian food at unbeatable prices. The food is all prepared same day so the place smells fantastic. They give huge portions, and sometimes they throw in a fresh fried plantain for regulars! Their hot sauce is NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. If you talk to Tony, the owner, in advance sometimes you can buy a bottle, but it's free when you put it on the food you ordered and also made fresh daily. It's the best deal in midtown. (Owned and operated by a great family who always remember me whenever I come in for lunch. This place is lunch only- come early because they sell out fast!
Brian was extremely welcoming and helpful when telling me about the various dishes. The servicing sizes were ample enough to fill you up for the day! Between the pork and the chicken stews, each was delicious and filling. I would highly recommend adding plantains to your order and going through each item on the menu until you’ve indulged in each.
